Application Gallery

Kaltura's open source video platform is based on a flexible combination of customizable components called Kaltura Widgets. These widgets can be customized, skinned, and combined using simple workflows to form Kaltura applications. Kaltura applications can be developed using the Kaltura SDK in any modern programming language, and using the Kaltura flexible APIs. The free open source offering also includes reference implementations (in PHP, Java, Ruby, or .Net) that facilitate the rapid creation of applications, as well as a Kaltura ‘application builder' tool that empowers publishers to construct applications ‘on-the-fly', including different features, interfaces, and workflows. Kaltura's platform can be integrated with other publishing or enterprise systems such as MediaWiki, Drupal, WordPress, Moodle, Elgg, and very soon Joomla, Mindtouch, OpenOffice and Sharepoint. Many of these integrations are already available for free.

Kaltura's model allows publishers to implement the solution that best fits their needs. They can deploy Kaltura's video platform without any integration work whatsoever, based on several applications already offered, or make use of Kaltura's professional services or an external integrator to build upon the platform using Kaltura's flexible APIs.

The following are examples of existing Kaltura applications:

Immersive Branded Entertainment

Heroes Ghosthouse

In today's world, it's hard to keep anyone's attention online for more than a few seconds. Brands are looking for new ways to create engaging two-way connections with their consumers. Kaltura's custom-branded online video applications are an effective way to encourage user interaction and loyalty while promoting brands within immersive branded entertainment experiences.

Kaltura created online video applications within fully branded microsites for companies like Lions Gate Entertainment (Ghost House Pictures) and Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Each microsite included branded pages with embedded video players and video remixers, as well as pre-loaded content. As part of Universal's "Heroes" season 2 DVD launch fans could remix preloaded videos, photos and audio from the show's second season. The "Heroes" campaign managed to achieve its marketing goals for reach and engagement, and help position Universal Studios as a company on the cutting-edge.
