Kaltura, the leading video technology provider, announced today that it has developed and fully integrated an Interactive Video Quizzing tool into its platform. This will allow educational institutions, corporate training teams, and anyone else using videos for learning and training to add interactive quizzes to Kaltura video workflows for the purpose of enhancing feedback and assessment during video-based learning.

Available immediately, it is a no-cost tool that is now included in all existing and future Kaltura MediaSpace and Kaltura Application Framework-based products, which include Kaltura’s LMS integrations.

Adoption of video as a primary tool for instructional content is increasing fast. The launch of the in-video quiz tool reflects the growing need for richer interactions inside of videos and tighter integration of the video experience with feedback and assessment.

  • An ungraded self-check for understanding;
  • An assessment of understanding of video content;
  • An assessment of mastery of a concept with video prompts;
  • A survey tool to poll viewers;
  • A method to assess video quality.

Kaltura’s Interactive Video technology allows content creators to define questions and responses that appear at designated points in a video experience, which can serve as:

For those organizations that use an LTI-compliant LMS, scores for quizzes that instructors choose to “count” for a student’s grade will be able to be automatically brought back into the LMS gradebook.The flexible tool lets the content creator decide whether the quiz is graded or ungraded, whether the correct answers and score are revealed to viewers, and whether there are hints available. Kaltura’s existing reporting tools allow instructors to see how viewers responded to each question, individually and in aggregate.

“We’re thrilled to be able to offer our users this new functionality, which allows them to make their videos far more engaging and valuable to the instructional process, all in a fully integrated workflow that is unique in the market,” said Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura Chairman and CEO. “Kaltura continues to innovate in the online learning space, allowing our customers to keep pace with the expectations of the YouTube generation, and leverage video to further improve the learning experience.”
