Kaltura Releases Version 1.0 of its Open Source Video Module for Drupal

Webmasters, site integrators and developers can now enhance their Drupal-based sites with comprehensive and flexible rich-media capabilities designed specifically to integrate with Drupal.

Kaltura, Inc. (http://corp.kaltura.com), developer of the first open source video platform for video management, creation, interaction, and collaboration, announced today that it has released version 1.0 of its “All in One” video module for Drupal. Drupal is a leading open source Content Management Platform with over 1.5 million downloads in the past year – more than 100% growth from the previous year. The Kaltura module, which can be downloaded at https://corp.kaltura.com/download, handles every aspect of rich-media, allowing Drupal site-builders to customize, configure, and manage rich media functionalities that include uploading, importing, editing, annotating, remixing, and sharing of video, audio, and photo files.

“With more than 15,000 sites already using our solutions and hundreds of new ones every day, it is clear that our open source platform is filling a void in the online video space” said Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura Chairman and CEO. “The Kaltura Drupal module is the perfect solution for integrators and site builders to easily add advanced integrated rich media functionality to their sites. It is also another great example of how our open source development platform can be used by the community to create integrated rich media extensions for other platforms. We invite providers of other platforms to add to our arsenal of open source video solutions, including extensions for MediaWiki, WordPress, and Drupal, and build their own rich media extensions using our flexible, available, and free development tools.”

Kaltura’s “All-in-One” video module was developed using the open source Kaltura code. It is specifically tailored for Drupal, and seamlessly integrates with Drupal’s unique features and modules, such as CCK, Views, cron, metadata, permissions and taxonomy. The module is currently compatible with Drupal 6 (Drupal 5 compatible version will be available soon).

Module highlights:

  • Enables easy uploading of video, image and audio files from the computer, recording from a webcam, or importing from popular sources like YouTube, MySpace, and Flickr
  • Enables customization of video players, playlists, and rich media galleries
  • Enables web-based video editing, remixing, and annotation
  • Enables real-time content and application management, including permissions settings integrated with the Drupal permissions settings, statistics, and reporting
  • Offers full integration with Drupal Views, including a gallery of predefined views
  • Offers full integration with Drupal tags
  • Includes CCK field representation of rich media
  • All metadata is stored locally; each media file is created as a Drupal Video Node
  • Content is hosted by Kaltura and streamed from Kaltura’s CDN
