About Gogo

Gogo is the world’s leading provider of in-flight connectivity and an innovator in in-flight entertainment. Using Gogo’s exclusive network and services, passengers with laptops and other Wi-Fi enabled devices can get online on more than 1,200 commercial aircraft on all domestic AirTran Airways, Virgin America and Alaska Airlines flights, all domestic mainline Delta flights and select Air Canada, American Airlines, United Airlines, and US Airways flights.

How is Gogo using video?

Using Kaltura, Gogo launched a new streaming video product – Gogo Vision™ – onboard American Airlines’ entire fleet of 15 Boeing 767-200 aircraft, as well as select Delta Airlines flights.

To meet Gogo’s specific requirements, Kaltura developed a custom solution that uses an on-premise version of the Kaltura software, installed on the airplane alongside Gogo’s receiver and router.  Kaltura stores the entire video catalog in encrypted form and serves the video over the plane’s Wi-Fi network.  Gogo’s ATG Network is used only for the purchase and DRM license transaction.

The end result for passengers is the ability to browse, select, and view premium video content from the comfort of their own laptops and devices.

Why Kaltura?

  • Flexibility - Kaltura's platform allowed Gogo to create the custom solution it needed for its very unique use-case
  • Open Architecture - allowing Gogo's team to expand on the existing Kaltura framework, instead of developing the solution from scratch
